The Krups coffee maker is the coffee pot for you if you love mocha coffee. This electric coffee pot works by sending steam from the water in the base up into the coffee grinds in the filter and returns it as a liquid to the pot. This brewing method gives you a better tasting coffee than you get from the conventional drip coffee pots, but it isn't espresso coffee. What do you get is a coffee called Americano, which is a shot of espresso mixed with hot water. It does have some of the espresso flavor.
With Krups model, you don't have to spend time watching the brew on the stove. All you have to do is pour in am measured amount of water into the base, add the coffee to the filter and lock the carafe into place. It usually takes about fifteen minutes to brew a pot of coffee because it is done under low pressure. With this machine, you also have to wait until the full brew is done, unlike some of the percolators that stop the drip when you remove the pot from the flat bottom base.
If you like to make a full pot of coffee and use that for the day, then the Krups machine won't keep the coffee warm for you. You are better off buying a thermos bottle so that you will have the hot mocha coffee whenever you need it. You also need to turn this coffee pot off manually - it doesn't automatically shut off on its own when the brew is finished. The on/off button is right on the front, so you won't have any difficulty finding it.
You might have to grind your own beans if this is the type of coffee maker that you want. The grind used in drip percolators is too coarse and that used in espresso machines is too fine. You might also have some difficulty finding the right size coffee filter at your local supermarket. However, you won't have any difficulty ordering the filters you need when you do a search online.
You will have to use a paper filter and if you are really stuck, you can use the regular filters and cut them to the size you need. The paper filter gives you a clean cup of coffee with no residue, but if you use a press filter, you may get some sediment in the bottom of your cup.
