Before purchasing a Krups food processor, it would be wise to read customer ratings and reviews. With a price tag lower than a Cuisinart or Kitchen-Aid, it seems like a good buy... but you may be sacrificing quality and durability in buying a cheap food processor.
That's not to say that Krups is a poor brand. Overall, their kitchen appliance line is sleek, attractive and durable. It makes it even harder to understand what went wrong with their Opti-Pro food processor.
At first glance the Opti-Pro, with its unique bowl design, seems like an innovative new processor. The rounded 8-cup bowl with a watertight lid is great for processing liquids, and prevents food from becoming trapped in corners. Unfortunately, the bowl has been known to melt in the dishwasher, even though it is advertised as being dishwasher safe. Ordering a new bowl or part for your Krups is no small undertaking and you should prepare yourself for a wait; with slow customer service and back-ordered parts that actually have to be shipped from Germany, it could be months before the return of your processor.
This food processor has a powerful 400W motor to get through tough jobs such as nuts and chick peas. The motor is almost too much for the light plastic construction of the processor to handle, as it 'walks' across the kitchen counter when in use. Some users have found that the processor vibrates to the point that parts fall out of place, causing the appliance to turn itself off.
Overall, this processor is a good buy if you don't mind shelling out for a new processor in a few months, as that seems to be it's typical lifespan. A Cuisinart processor, while slightly more expensive, is also a more reliable and durable kitchen appliance.
